I just wanted to say thanks to Masada Roofing for my new roof.
For years, I had dreaded going through the insurance process to get my roof done, even though my house is 13 years old and has been through numerous storms. I guess I thought the insurance company would not replace my roof due to the age of the house and thought that I had to somehow wrangle an agreement out of them. Masada made the process extremely simple, pointing out the damage to the insurance inspector, and really just handling everything.
I’ve also heard horror stories about some companies not stripping down the entire roof for replacement, but that’s not the case with Masada. Masada discovered and replaced some rotted wood on the roof. Without that replacement, I would have been vulnerable to thousands of dollars in damage!
I live in a pretty big two-story house, and Masada replaced the roof in 4 hours. When they finished, everything was so clean; it was as if they weren’t even there.
My young daughter even picked out the new (lighter color) shingles, which look great! And not only did my insurance cover the cost of the new roof, but the new roof included ridge vents which are expected to save us money on our utility bills.

As a Realtor in the Austin area for the past five years, I have had mixed experiences with a menagerie of vendors, much like other Realtors. Naturally, once we had had a positive experience with an individual or a company, we tend to refer them to others, as we now refer Derek Foley, Masada Roofing, Inc.
Negotiations during the Option Period of a contract are critical, and sometimes tense, for both the Buyer and Seller. Should the Buyer’s Professional Property Inspection Report reveal roof damage, suggesting repair and /or replacement, it is common for the Buyer to ask the Seller to complete the work, prior to closing and funding, and bear all or part of the cost, or possibly reduce the sales price accordingly.
As we know, this may intensify already elevated emotions. It takes a special talent to sit down with the Seller and/or the Buyer and rationally explain the options available. When damage is a direct result of Acts of God; i.e., wind or storm or hail damage, it may be prudent to consult with the Seller’s insurance to seek coverage under policy – or cover costs covered out-of-pocket.
For the contractual parties this maze of confusion, along with a possible closing delay, may further escalate emotions. Derek Foley handles these situations with finesse, lending his expertise of the roofing trade, and coupling his ability to work in a heart-felt way with folks who are already under duress. Explaining the different avenues available to them, along with the seemingly endless stack of mandated forms and approvals, Derek has circumvented difficulties and has still met our time-sensitive closing date deadlines.

He knew we were prepared to have the work done if necessary. This letter is a recommendation for “my roofer”, Derek Foley.
Last spring, (2001) Derek came to our home and noticed that our roof looked on need of repair. He started to answer my questions about our roof and the cost of replacing it. It was over $25,000. At the time, I thought it might need to be partially replaced, but I never imagined that it was in bad enough shape for my insurance company (State Farm) to cover me for a brand new roof.
It was a seventeen year old wood shake roof that had suffered through Texas’ summer heat. There was also an increasing amount of wind damage occurring along with very minor hail damage. I assure you, I would not have been successful in getting total coverage had Derek not represented my interests directly with the claim adjuster. He was tenacious, he understood the dynamics of the insurance claims business and was knowledgeable about roofing.
After climbing up on my extremely steep and large roof, Derek surveyed the damage, took thorough notes and reviewed the weather and damage history. He then met my insurance company claims agent, pointed out the specific areas of damage, reviewed the scope of work, and persisted in persuading them to replace the entire roof. In fact, he came by the house on numerous occasions to review and mark the location of the damage and importantly, to keep my wife and I informed about the process. We were both very impressed with his enthusiasm for the project and his professional demeanor.
As it turned out, we insisted that State Farm work with our roofer –Derek– and he provided a very competitive bid. Within a few weeks, roof construction started. The work was completed in less than two weeks and we couldn’t be more pleased.

We are writing this as a letter of recommendation for your roofing company. We were originally referred to Masada Roofing from a friend when our roof needed repairs.
We had received a bid from another roofing company that would not do the simple fixes that we requested. Instead, they suggested that we get the entire roof replaced by insurance. Skeptical, we contacted you for a second opinion. You gave us an honest assessment that our roof would not qualify for replacement, but you made the minor repairs that were needed. We really appreciated you saving us the hassle of an insurance claim denial, and taking the time to make minor repairs.

A good friend who was quite happy with her new roof referred Derek Foley to me during the 3 week rains of July 2002. I called Derek and requested he inspect the condition of my roof. He came the next day and informed me my roof was older but still serviceable. Four months later a major hail storm hit South Austin. Within a few days, I received a call from Derek inquiring if I wanted my roof inspected again. Grateful for the call, I gladly agreed. Derek’s diagnosis was that the roof was severely hail damaged and I needed a new one.
He gave me his fifteen minute visual presentation explaining what exactly needed to happen and how to accomplish it effectively and efficiently. I was quite impressed with the presentation and how attentive Derek was to my roofing needs. I quickly agreed, made one phone call to my insurance company and then he took charge. He quickly arranged a meeting on the roof with my insurance adjustor who instantly agreed that I needed a new roof and the financial arrangements were made between the two. All I had to do was pick a roof color and set a roofing date. Derek made the claims process so easy. Derek also made some good recommendations for energy and financial savings such as the roof ridge vents. The ridge vents also look quite nice. Derek seemed thoroughly knowledgeable of the roofing process and in other matters of home maintenance.
A few good weather days before the roofing date, a truckload of shingles were neatly stacked on my roof. On the actual appointment day, the crew showed up exactly on time and began their labor. They worked hard all day and by dusk, there was absolutely no trace they had been there except I had a beautiful new roof. I was in absolute awe of how smoothly this home maintenance project transpired and amazed at how Derek so meticulously handled every detail. A yard full of roofing nails is not what you want after a roofing job. His crew even used a metal detector to scan my yard.
Every time Derek is in the neighborhood he stops by and checks on the roof. We just had another hail storm the other day and I was hoping he would come by and check my roof. Today he did and the roof is in great shape. As a duplex homeowner constantly doing home projects, I have never met anyone as dedicated to the quality of their work and customer satisfaction. The after care treatment is unheard of in this day and age. Derek is a caring individual and a homeowner’s best friend.
